رواية الإختيار تأليف يورى بونداريف رواية مميزة عالمية تستحق مكانتها التى بلغتها بين صفوف روايات الأدب العالمى. ساد الضباب في المدينة وتضافر كالسابق مساءً، ولف الأنوار وواجهات المحلات المغلقة، التي أبرزتها وأنارتها أضواء النيونات، مذكرة بخشبات المسارح الخاوية، التي نادراً ما تتحرك قربها أشكال المارة. أخمدت الأزقة الضيقة، التي امتلأت بسديم متمايل حتى أطرافها، وقعَ الخطوات، لكن المكان كان أقل ظلمة قليلاً في الساحات، حيث كانت تظهر من وقت إلى آخر أبنية المعابد الضخمة المغسولة (كان بريق الشموع الكهربائية في نوافذها المحمية بالشِباك يتدفأ متورداً فوق الأرض) ومن ثم ممرات الشوارع الضبابية مرة أخرى، التي تخترقها نيونات الواجهات، ومرة أخرى ظلال الجسور نصف الدائرية المتأرجحة فوق القنوات غير المرئية، حيث يعصف فيها الـهواء في الأسفل ناشراً البرد، وتفوح عندها رائحة الحجر المتعفن المغسول بالماء.
