ألَف الإمام أبو الفضل عبد الله بن محمود ابن مودود الموصلي الحنفي كتاب "المختار" مختصراً في الفقه على مذهب الإمام الأعظم أبي حنيفة النعمان، ثم شرحه يشير فيه إلى علل مسائله ومعانيها، وسماه: "الإختيار لتعليل المختار".
فزاد فيه من المسائل ما تعم به البلوى، ومن الروايات ما يحتاج إليه في الفتوى يفتقر إليها المبتدي، ولا يستغني عنها المنتهي. ونظراً لأهمية الكتاب فقد أخذ جميع العلماء الأفذاذ على عواتقهم مهمة اختصاره وشرحه ونظمه، وهو يعد من المتون الأربعة المعتمدة في الفقه الحنفي. وعوَل المتأخرون من علماء المذهب الحنفي عليها، وانكبوا على قراءتها وشرحها وتدعيم مسائلها بالأدلة من الكتاب والسنة وما يتفرع عنهما من إجماع وقياس واستحسان ومصلحة مرسلة.
وامتاز هذا الكتاب بوضوح الأسلوب، وحسن العرض بإيجاز غير مخل، مع ذكر دليل كل مسألة من الكتاب والسنة والأثر. وأعطت هذه الطبعة الكتاب، حقه من التحقيق العلمي الدقيق، وتمت مراجعة أصلين خطيين نفسيين، وضبطنا النص، وتوزيعه وتفصيله وترقيمه بشكل يسهل على طالب العلم فهم مراد المصنف منه من غير لبس ولا إشكال.
هذا بالإضافة إلى شرح بعض الكلمات الغريبة، والتعليق على ما يحتاج إلى ذلك منها.
