البطلة هي الراوية هنا تخبرنا عن غباؤها وفساد تربيتها وعن أبيها الذي تكرهه وعن أخيها الذي يكرهها، تحكي عن زواجها من رجل لا تحبه، ثم تسرد التسلسل المنطقي المعتاد: زوجة بائسة ثم زوحة خائنة، ثم امرأة تفتقد احترامها لنفسها، ثم مشروع عاهرة، ثم تجد - في ثالث رجل تعرفه أثناء زواجها - حبًا تظن أنه سيعيد لحياتها طبيعتها.
هنا تطلب الطلاق وتعود لأهلها، ثم تتطور الأحداث فجأة لنكتشف أن كل الأحداث السابقة مجرد وهم في عقل مريضة نفسية.
يتوالى تطور الأحداث، حتى تفقد التمييز بين الوهم وبين الحقائق في السرد .. حتى تنتهي الرواية نهاية حالمة.
من الرواية: هل تعرفين، حين تزوجت كنت أظن أن كل مشاكلي انتهت ولكني اكتشفت أنني دخلت سجناً فيه كل أنواع العذاب أنا "باني بسطانجي" التي منعت طيلة حياتها حتى مجرد أن تفكر في ذكر، بين ليلة وضحاها أصبح المطلوب مني أن أكون عاهرة في الفراش... أن أكون امرأة منسلخة الكيان، أن أكون نسخة عنه وعن تفكيره، المشكلة تجاوزتني يا "شاهي" ولهذا تطلقت.
