هذا الكتاب في دراسة قد تبدو حديثة في بلادنا ، ولكنها ازدهرت وتأصلت بين من يعنون بالبحث اللغوي في أوروبا . وقد يحب بعض القراء أن يسمى ما تعرضت له في هذا الكتاب بالبحث "الفوناتيكي" Phinetics ولكنى أوثر أن أنسبة إلى فرع الفونولجي لأن الفونايتك يعنى بالأصوات الإنسانية شرحا وتحليلا ويجرى عليها التجارب دون نظر خاص إلى ما تنتمي إليه من لغات ، ولا إلى أثر تلك الأصوات في اللغة من الناحية العملية فهو لهذا عالمي ، كونت له هيئة عالمية تكشف لنا كل يوم عن أصوات إنسانية كانت مجهولة . أما الفنولوي فيعني كل العناية بأثر الصوت اللغوي في تركيب الكلام نحوه وصرفه ولهذا يمكن أن يطلق عليه علم الأصوات الذي يخدم بنية الكلمات وتركيب الجمل في لغة من اللغات.
