ناول المؤلف في هذا الكتاب الأصوات اللغوية عند أشهر علماء المسلمين في القرن الرابع الهجري ومطلع القرن الخامس الهجري وهو الشيخ الرئيس ابن سينا المتوفى سنة (428هـ)؛ ولا عجب أن يقوم هذا العالم الموسوعي بتوظيف خبرته التشريحية والفيزيائية والطبية والوظيفية الفسيولوجية في خدمة هذا العلم. كان منهج المؤلف في هذه الدراسة منهج وصفي تقابلي، وقد اعتمد على كتب ابن سينا وبشكل خاص على كتاب القانون، والشفاء، ورسالة أسباب حدوث الحروف. وقد جاءت خطة البحث في هذه الدراسة متضمنة مقدمة وأربعة فصول وخاتمة، بعد تمهيد يعرف بالمؤلف وبمواضيع الدراسة، أما الفصل الأول فقد تحدث فيه عن جهاز النطق عند المحدثين ومقارنة ذلك مع ما ورد عند ابن سينا، وتحدث في الفصل الثاني عن مخارج الحروف وصفاتها عند ابن سينا. وتحدث في الفصل الثالث عن فيزياء الصوت والسمع وتناول المصطلحات التي أوردها ابن سينا، وقارنها مع ما أورده المحدثون في هذا المجال، وتحدث في الفصل الرابع عن فونولوجيا الصوت عند ابن سينا، وبين خلال البحث رأي المحدثين في جملة المسائل الصوتية التي تضمنتها هذه الرسالة وأتممها بخاتمة تمثلت بأبرز النتائج التي توصل إليها.
