Ce passage du celebre hadith qudsi des actes surerogatoires (hadith al-nawafil) fournit a Ibn Taymiyya (m. 728/1328) l'occasion d'une reflexion theologique sur le mal et la mort, la pre-determination, l'amour du Seigneur pour Ses serviteurs et Sa sagesse. Il y precise en quel sens comprendre l'hesitation divine et developpe notamment sa fameuse distinction entre la volonte creatrice, ontologique, et la volonte Legislatrice, religieuse, du Tres-Haut.
