لم أكن أكره المدرسة كغيري من الأولاد، لذلك خرجت مبكراً ذاك الصباح والابتسامة من الفرح والدهشة تملأ وجهي. الغيوم في السماء كانت تشبه كراسي الآلهة. نسيم خريفي منعش. اوراق الشجر الصفراء. تزين الطريق. منظر كان يتكرر كل عام إلا أنني لم أستطع أن أعتاده أبداً. وسأدهش دوماً كأنني أراه لأول مرة. لا شيء يفسد متعتي. لقد كتبت وظيفة القراءة وبعد قليل ستثني علي المدرسة التي أحبها. وقد تضع يدها على شعري وهي تلاطفني. وبما أنني خرجت مبكراً سأسلك الطريق الأطول الذي يمر من مجموعة أشجار قرب جدول صغير حقيبة الكتب والدفاتر ليست ثقيلة ويأتحاشى أن ألوث ثياب المدرسة. بهذه البداية يبدأ الكاتب قصته الأولى ذات صباح من مجموعته القصصية التي تتألف بالإضافة لتلك القصة: في المحطة، الظل، وجه يضحك، حكاية عن قنديل، في كتاب شعري قديم، الباب، البقعة، لحظة جميلة، رصاصة مترددة، خبر قديم، العدوان، أعتذر، المعبد، مأزق اعتيادي، نشيد الانشاد، الحصان.
