تحاول رواية “فتنة” أن تقدم لنا إجابة عن سؤال الفتنة، من خلال اقتحامها لعالم الشيخ فتّوح في قرية الدلجمون، مختزلاً هذا العالم الكبير في هذا المقام، وفي هامش الرواية يتعرض لسبب تسمية بعض البلاد “كدمنهور” بهذا الاسم كما جاء في معجم البلدان: “سميت كذلك بسبب الحرب بين الروم وعمرو بن العاص وكان الدم نهوراً” في إشارة واضحة إلى ارتباط المكان بما ينسج حوله من حكايات تاريخية وأساطير، وثّقتها كتب التراث، وأشير أيضا في الهامش الروائي إلى “اسحق أبو حصيرة”، وتورد حكايته كيهودي صالح بنى له مقام بدمنهور، ويقام له فيها مولد سنوي كل عام، وهو ما يشير إليه في متن الرواية. كل هذا يصنع علاقة وثيقة بين الحيّز الروائي ،وحيّز المكان الجغرافي الواقعي، ويؤدي مقام سيدي فتّوح وظيفته، لتصبح نموذجاً للمكان، كما تخلقه الخرافة، أو الحكاية، أو حاجة الناس لاختراع أسطورتهم.
