The question of how to design amd implement effective staff incentive schemes has recently gaimed more prominence in banking institutions. Committed and productive staff members play a key role in the delivery of banking services, so it is not surprising that many people consider this to be an important topic. What is more of a surprise is the fact that incentive schemes took so long to attract the attemtion that they deserve.
Current practices and staff's mixed perceptions and reactions demonstrate the mediocre level of motivation, reward, recognition, and improved efficiency. This toolkit was developed with the following in mind:1- The main goal is to provide readers with a set of instruments, or tools, that will be useful both in thinking about staff incentive schemes and in designing them. 2- Staff incentive schemes must be adapted and tailored of the specific situation prevailing in each Group, unit, or team of The Bank There is no single scheme (or set of shemes) that can serve as a ''one size fits all'' solution. Thus it is not possible to produce a definitive recipe book for setting up staff incentive schemes. Rather, this paper contains a collection of (hopefully useful) guidelines.
