على حافة الذاكرة يقف الدكتور يحي شامي، ليعيد إلى جبل عامل الحياة، ويكتب "من ذاكرتي العاملية". هي سطور قلم لكاتب مشغوف بالمكان حفيّ بالزمان، مسكون بالحنين إلى الأوطان. كاتب راح ينفض الغبار عمّا كان علق بذاكرته من وقائع وأحداث ومشاهدات كان هو الشاهد عليها في معظم الأحيان. فأراد مشاركة القارىء عيشها، وقد جمع فيها من كل بستان زهرة.
يتألف الكتاب من أربعة أقسام رئيسة. تضمن القسم الأول منه "بين الأمس واليوم" باقة من المقالات أو النصوص التي قابل فيها المؤلف ما كان عليه الناس بالأمس وبين ما هو عليه اليوم من أنماط سلوك أو عادات أو مفاهيم، فيما تضمن القسم الثاني الموسوم بـ "علماء في الذاكرة" بعضاً مما وعته ذاكرته من سيرة عدد من العلماء الذين كان له شرف مقاربتهم وصحبتهم والإتصال بهم من قريب أو بعيد ...
أما القسم الثالث الذي هو بعنوان "طرائف، نوادر، ردود ومواقف" ، فهو يشتمل ما علق بذاكرة المؤلف من طرائق ونوادر، ومن ردود محكمة بليغة، ومواقف مشرفة، كانت قد صدرت عن ذوي العقل الراجح أو البديهة الحاضرة ...
ويأتي القسم الرابع والأخير المعنون بـ "قطوف مختارة"، ليضم بين طياته، مساجلات ومطارحات وإجازات وتشطيرات شعرية، وقصص لا يخلو بعضها من روح الدعابة أو الظرف والفكاهة. هذا فضلاً عن إيراد المؤلف طائفة من الأشعار المقتطفة من دواوين شعرية كان قد أهداه إياها عدد من الأصدقاء الشعراء.
