مناقشة علمية رصينة لطائفةٍ من الشبهات التي لا يزال يثيرها بعض المنتسبين إلى الفكر الإسلامي المعاصر في تأويل النصوص الشرعية المتعلقة بحدّ الردة؛ بما يحرف تلك النصوص عن مسارها، ويجعلها غير ذات معنى في الحياة المعاصرة، وذلك بغية راحة خادعة لضمائر أولئك المتضايقين من مجرّد احتواء كتب الفقه الإسلامي على الأحكام الخاصة بالحدود الشرعية عموماً، وحدّ الردة خصوصاً.
يناقش هذا الكتاب شُبهات اعتبار حدّ الردة مغيّىً بغاية زمنية فلم تعُد الأمة بحاجة إليه، وأنه دخيلٌ على الشريعة من تشريعات أخرى قديمة، وأنه غير موجود في القرآن الكريم الذي ينبغي ألّا تعارض سنة النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم مبادئه السامية وأهمها مبدأ حرية الاعتقاد، وأنه لذلك قد اختلف علماء الأمة في هذا الحدّ من القديم، أو أنه من أحكام السياسة الشرعية الموكولة إلى الإمام اعتباراً أو إلغاءاً، وهو متعلق بالجاسوسية وما يسمى اليوم بالخيانة العظمى، ولا علاقة له بالخروج من ملة الإسلام.
