كتابنا هو رسالة في الاجتهاد، قليلة السطور، جليلة الآفاق والمعاني، سُطّرت في أزهى عصور التاريخ الإسلامي، وهو عصر الفتح العثماني الأكبر، فهي وثيقة تاريخية مهمة، تكتسب أهميتها من السياق الذي كُتبت فيه، وكذا من مكانة مصنِّفها، وهو شيخ الإسلام في الدولة العثمانية العلّامة محمد بن فرامرز الشهير بالـمُلّا خُسرُو، المتوفّى سنةَ 885 هجرية، وقد كتبها بطلبٍ من تلميذِه خليفةِ المسلمين في عصره السلطان محمد الفاتح، أحد أعظم سلاطين الدولة العثمانية، المتوفّى سنة 886 هجرية. تضمنت الرسالة معنى الاجتهاد وأقسامَه وشروطَه، وخُتِمت بمقالة في الحثّ على تحصيل العلوم الشرعية والترغيب فيها. وقد حقّق هذه الرسالة الأستاذ الدكتور عبد الواحد جهداني عن نسخة فريدة نفيسة، هي نسخة المؤلف بخطه، وذلك هو الغاية في الوثاقة والنفاسة
