Book Description
This study was conducted in the research facilities of the Horticulture Research Institute during the period from 1999 to 2002 to produce and evaluate some tomato yellow leaf curl virus (TYLCV) resistant hybrids for virus resistance, yield, and fruit quality characters. Seven TYLCV-resistant true-breeding tomato lines with good fruit quality characters, viz., lines I (Fiona: F? 7-1). 2 (Tyking: F7 2-2), 3 (Fl Fiona x FITyking: F6 3-1), 4 (Fl Fiona x FITyking: F6 4-4). 5 (Chiltylc 93: F7 2-2-1), 6 (Chiltylc 93: F7 2-2-3), and (Chiltylc 94: F7 54) were crossed to produce 8 hybrids, viz., line Ix line 6, tine 3 x line 5, line 3 x line 7, line 4 x line 6, line 5 x line I , line 5 x line 2, line 5 x line 6, and line 5 x line 7. These hybrids were evaluated along with their parents and two controls, i.e., cv. Castlerock and the hybrid E 448 (Al-Qods) during the summer and fall seasons of 2000 and 2001.
