جرير بن عبد العزِّي - أو عبد المسيح - من بني ضُبَيعة، من ربيعة. شاعر جاهلي، من أهل البحرين. وهو خال طرفة بن العبد. كان ينادم عمرو بن هند (ملك العراق) ثم هجاه، فأراد عمرو قتله ففرَّ إلى الشام، ولحق بآل جفنة (ملوكها) ومات ببصرى (من أعمال حوران - في سورية) وفي الأمثال (أشأم من صحيفة المتلمس) وهي كتاب حمله من عمرو بن هند إلى عامله بالبحرين، وفيه الأمر بقتله، ففضه وقرئ له ما فيه، فقذفه في نهر الحيرة، ونجا. له (ديوان شعر - ط) فيه ما بقي من شعره، وقد ترجمه إلى الألمانية المستشرق فولرس.
