يضم الكتاب أيضا الكتاب مجموعة مختارة بعناية من الكتابات النقدية التي تحلل وتتوقف أمام اهتمامات السينا العربية ومشاكلها وطرق تعبيرها ولكن من خلال الأفلام نفسها أي من خلال أفلام ذات أوجه متعددة، من فلسطين ومصر وتونس ولبنان والمغرب والجزائر وسورية والسعودية. ولأن الهدف الأساسي من هذا الكتاب هو تناول الفيلم الروائي تحديدا، فقد خصصت الفصل الأول لدراسة حول مستقبل الفيلم الروائي في سياق الصراع الدائر بين الثقافات وأيضا في خضم ما يطرأ يوميا من ابتكارات واختراعات جديدة توفرها تكنولوجيا الصورة. ولم يكن هدف الكتاب تقديم تاريخا مفصلا للسينما العربية بل التطرق عن قرب لبعض القضايا التي تتعلق بتطورها: علاقة السينما بالأدب، وعلاقتها بالعالم، والبحث في الموضوع الأكثر إلحاحا والذي يثور الجدل حوله من حين الى آخر، وهو موضوع التمويل الفرنسي للأفلام العربية وتأثيره على رؤية السينمائيين في المشرق والمغرب، واعادة النظر في بعض جوانب السينما الفلسطينية ومتابعة مراحل تطورها الحديث وصولا إلى أحدث ما أنتجته، ثم تناول مثلث الجنس والدين والسياسة من منظور سينما "التركيبة" أو الوصفة السائدة، وكذلك من منظور السينما الأكثر طموحا.
