يمثل مفهوم القيم إشكالية كبرى في العالم منذ وجد الإنسان على هذه الأرض. فبين قائل بانعدام القيم أو حصول تبدّل جوهري في اعتبار قيمة القيم، وبين من يرى أن العالم يشهد اصطفافاً مكثفاً للقيم، يرى الشيخ "شفيق جرادي" في هذا العمل: أن ما يغلب على مبحث القيم اليوم هو اتسامه بالنزعة الإنسانوية التي أقامت جسور التعاطي ورسمت نظام الحقوق على أسس بعيدة عن روح النزوع التألهي، أو رفض النزوع نحو الله بوصفه مصدر انبعاث قيم الوجود والمعرفة. وهذا ما أوصل مباحث الظواهر الدينية – في نظر الكاتب – للقول بتعددية دينية تنفي الله بوصفه مصدراً للمعرفة وللكيان الإنساني.
وفي هذا السياق يحاول الكاتب الغوص في مباحث القيم من أجل التأكيد على حقيقة ارتباطها بالإلهيات أولاً، وثانياً التأكيد على أن وحدة الشعور الإنساني بين البشر لن تتحقق دون اعتمادها النزوع إلى الله بوصفه باعثاً لفهم الحياة.
يتألف الكتاب من اربعة فصول، في الفصل الأول تحدث الكاتب عن المعرفة الدينية في قيمها الوجودية، وقيم المعرفة اللاهوتية لوجود الإنسان. وفي الفصل الثاني تحدث عن الشريعة والطريقة والحقيقة عند الإمام الخميني، وانجذاب القيم الحياتية إلى عالم المبدأ. أما الفصل الثالث فقد تحدث في البداية عن: الله ومنظومة قيم الإختلاف، وقيم النظرة للذات والآخر في منطق اللاهوت، والتعددية الدينية. وأخيراً تحدث الفصل الرابع عن الإخلاق الإسلامية ومنظومة القيم التبادلية، ومصدر ومرتكز ومعيار النظام الأخلاقي ومعناه ...
