يبرز السؤال المركزي في كتاب الشيخ شفيق جرادي المعنون بـ "في مسالك الحوار الإسلامي المسيحي" في البحث عن هدف عملية التحاور. ذلك أنَا بمقدار ما نكتشف قيمة الهدف، بمقدار ما نقترب الحكمة الداعية والباعثة على إجراء التحاور، بل إن هذا الأمر –أي معرفة الهدف وبالتالي الحكمة- سيساهم في معرفة ما يبغيه المتحاورين في طروحاتهم وإشكالياتهم نحو جوهر الدين بعيداً عن المقولات السطحية والإختلافات العقائدية والمذهبية والحضارية المؤتلفة والمختلفة. من هنا يجد مؤلف الكتاب أن لا سبيلاً للتكامل إلا "بمثل هذا الإعتراف المنتج لحوار الحياة والفكر والبرهان، والرافع لصرح بناء مجتمعات العيش الوطني المتسالمة بقيم العدالة والمساواة والحرية، والمسترشدة بهدي الرحمة والحب الإلهيين ...". من رحم هذا المعنى تنسل موضوعات الكتاب موزعة على أربعة أبواب، أولها في الحوار الإسلامي المسيحي في ضوء التطورات الإجتماعية والسياسية العائدة ومنها (إشكالية المعاصرة والمواطنة)، وثانيها: في إلهيات المعرفة الدينية ويبحث في إيجاد سبل تكامل بين الأديان، وثالثها: موضوعات في الحوارالإسلامي المسيحي ومنها: مريم وسر الزمن والقدر، والفداء وثقافة التضحية والمقاومة، ويدور الباب الرابع والأخير: بين اللاهوتي والفيلسوف ويضم مقالات متنوعة منها: انبعاث بروح ثورة نسكية: الأب ميشال الحايك، والقراءة المنهجية للدين ومسائله الرئيسة، في وجهة نظر بولس الخوري، والعيش الإسلامي المسيحي والمطران جورج خضر...
