يجيء هذا الكتاب عن "ابن الرومي شاعر الغربة النفسية". ثانياً في سلسلة الإصدارات الأدبية عن الفكر العربي وأعلامه ونوابغه، وهو أحد الكتب التي تحاول إنصاف الشاعر الذي كان أحد كبار المجددين في الأدب العباسي، ولكن المقاييس، التي كانت متبعة في عصره حالت دون إنصاف الشاعر الذي كان أحد كبار المجددين في الأدب العباسي، ولكن المقاييس التي كانت متبعة ف يعصره حالت دون إنصافه والإنكباب على دراسة عطائه الشعري حتى العصور المتأخرة.
ودراسة ابن الرومي التي اتبع خلالها، أسلوباً منهجياً يتسم بالشمول والتعمق، ويكتفي بالإيجاز المفيد في غير موضع من مواضع البحث، تولي ثلاث من الأغراض الشعرية الهامة التي عالجها ابن الرومي عناية خاصة، وهي الوصف والرثاء والهجاء، أي أن تلك العناية الخاصة بالمواضيع الشعرية الثلاثة في إنتاج ابن الرومي، لم تحل دون الحديث العاجل عن أغراض شعرية أخرى طرق ابن الرومي أبوابها، فضلاً عما أجرى حول بعض الجوانب من تسلسل تاريخي يتناول الفن الأدبي الذي يعالج عبر العصور، بالإضافة على المقارنات والتحليلات التي لا غنى عنها بالنسبة إلى الباحث والناقد والمعلم والطالب على حد سواء.
