تحفل المكتبة العربية بعدد لا حصر له من الكتب والمختصرات التي تتناول قواعد اللغة العربية بغية تيسيرها للقراء والتلاميذ، ولا شك أن بعض هذه الكتب جاءت لتضيف تعقيداً على التعقيد الذي يعاني منه المبتدئون، وربما كتب بعضها بلغة معقدة تذكر بأساليب الكتاب في القرون الماضية مما جعل عملية الفهم عسيرة في الغالب.
ولما كان هدف الكتاب هو تقريب اللغة العربي وتسهيل تعلمها لمن فاتهم ذلك في حداثتهم إضافة إلى الرغبة في تسهيل القواعد التي يحتاجها التلاميذ في مختلف المراحل الدراسية فقد سعى غريغوار حداد إلى وضع هذا الكتاب الميسر وهو وسيلة تعليمية ناجحة يحتاجه التلاميذ والمدرسون والمثقفون على حد سواء. وقد جعله سهل الاستعمال عبر الإرشادات والشروح التي أرفقها بكل درس والتي تواكب المتعلم خطوة أخذه بيده بطريقة يتدرج فيها من الأسهل ثم السهل وهكذا حتى يستوفي الكتاب غايته.
وارتكزت منهجية المؤلف على القراءة والاستظهار مع القليل القليل من القواعد السهلة الحفظ والتطبيق، وتم التركيز أثناء ذلك على القواعد فيما يتعلق بالصف الخامس الابتدائي واستثمار القراءات والاستظهارات كأمثلة إضافية على كل قاعدة.
وقد قسم الكتاب إلى بابين رئيسيين: الباب الأول خصص للصرف وهو العلم الذي يعني بالكلمات وصيغها واشتقاقاتها، والباب الثاني للنحو وهو العلم الذي يعني بالجمل وتركيبها وعلاقات الكلمات ببعضها. كما جعل لكل باب ثلاثة أجزاء، جزء للأفعال وآخر للأسماء وثالث للأحرف وجعل لكل جزء عدة فصول ولكل فصل عدة قواعد وقد ترك في الكتاب مساحات فارغة تتيح للطالب أو المتعلم إمكانية إضافة أمثلة من عنده على القواعد التي درسها.
