بدأت "الحركة الاجتماعية" تنظم "صيفيات أولاد" سنة 1957، وكانت أهدافها من خلال هذا المشروع:
-الإسهام في تربية الأولاد من 7 إلى 13 سنة عبر الترفيه التربوي ووسائله، أي الألعاب، النزهات، الأشغال اليدوية والفنية، الرقصات، والأغاني، الخ...
-جعلهم يعيشون في بيئة صحية جسدياً ونفسياً وروحياً. ويتشبعون من القيم الإنسانية التي تتضمنها هذه الأنشطة.
-جعلهم يتعرفون على متطوعين ومتطوعات يمارسون القيم الإنسانية، على قدر استطاعتهم، فيتخذونهم، بطريقة واعية أو غير واعية. كمثال حي، فلا تبقى القيم شعارات ضبابية.
وكانت تتوافر الوسائل التربوية الترفيهية المذكورة أعلاه، ما عدا الأغاني باللغة العربية الفصيحة والعامية، بينما كانت متوافرة بالفرنسية أو بالإنكليزية.
وأخذ المسؤلون والمسؤولات عن الصيفيات يطلبون من الأب "غرايغوار حداد" أن يؤلف لهم أغاني على ألحان معروفة، وفي مواضيع تربوية، فتجمعت لديهم أكثر من خمسين أغنية باللغة العربية الفصيحة والعامية.
ولما كانت الأغاني التربوية العربية للأولاد والأحداث لا تزال قليلة جداً، وكانت مجموعة الأغاني، التي وضعها مؤسس "الحركة الاجتماعية"، لا تزال صالحة للأهداف التربوية التي كتبت لها، قرر "المكتب التنفيذي" في الحركة الاجتماعية: أن ينشرها في كتاب، يوزع على مراكز الحركة التربوية.
فكان هذا الكتاب لهذه المجموعة من الأغاني، حيث يضم خمسة أقسام: أولاً: الأغاني للأولاد بين السادسة والثامنة من عمرهم، ثانياً: الأغاني للأولاد بين التاسعة والثانية عشرة، ثالثاً: الأغاني للأحداث بين الثالثة عشرة والخامسة عشرة، رابعاً: الأغاني للفتيان والفتيات بين السادسة عشرة والثامنة عشرة. خامساً: الأغاني الصالحة لجميع الأعمار والخاصة بصيفيات الأولاد، وفي كل قسم جمعت أولاً الأغاني باللغة الفصيحة، ثم باللغة العامية، عدا ما في القسمين الأخيرين، إذ جميعها كتبت بالعربية الفصيحة.
