العلمانية (بفتح العين) هي أولاً نظرة شاملة للعالم، بمعنى الإنسانية جمعاء ومعنى الكون كله أي مجموعة الكائنات، وبالوقت ذاته هي موقف منسجم مع هذه النظرة، وتجسيد للنظرة والموقف في الواقع، وهذه النظرة الشاملة تؤكد استقلالية العالم بكل مقوماته وأبعاده وقيمه تجاه الدين ومقوماته وأبعاده وقيمه. والاستقلالية تعني أن هناك قيمة ذاتية فعلية للعالم والمجتمع والإنسان وقضاياه غير مستمدة من الدين والقيمة الدينية وغير خاضعة لهما، تجعل تمايزاً بين العالم والدين أي تعترف بميزات كل منهما، بدون امتيازات للواحد على الآخر.
فالاستقلالية ليست إذاً العدائية، بل الحياد التام بينهما، وهذا الحياد يمكنه أ، يكون سلبياً، يجعل كلاً منهما لا يهتم أبداً بالآخر ولا يقيم له وزناً أو حساباً، ويمكن أن يكون حياداً إيجابياً يجعل كلاً منهما يعتبر ويقدر ألآخر وقيمه وإمكانية إسهامه في اكتمال الإنسان.
في هذا الإطار يأتي حديث الباحث "غريغوار" حداد" حيث يتناول موضوع العلمانية الشاملة موضحاً بداية مفهوم العلمانية ومفاهيمها الخاطئة في لبنان واستعمالاتها الخاطئة أيضاً، من ثم يتوقف عند المفهوم الشامل للعلمانية ونتائجها، وأخيراً يرد على سؤال مطروح في إطار العلمانية وهو: هل العلمانية الشاملة ممكنة التحقيق؟
