إن هذا الكتيب، إذ يحاول إلقاء بعض الأضواء على موضوع "الدين المسيحي وقضية المرأة" هو مساهمة مجلة "آفاق" في "سنة المرأة العالمية".
ولقد سبق أن خصصت مجلة "آفاق" عدداً خاصاً عن المرأة (العدد 16 حزيران 1975) جمعت فيه حصيلة الآراء والتحقيقات، مع بعض الأبحاث، حول وضع المرأة العربية. وتضمن هذا العدد العناصر الثلاثة الأولى فقط لبحث المطران غريغوار حداد، كما تضمن مقال جيروم شاهين. وإننا ننشر في هذا الكتيب النص الكامل لبحث المطران حداد، كما نعيد نشر مقال جيروم شاهين بعد أن أضاف إليه هذا الأخير بعض الأفكار التي لم تنشر في المجلة.
