بشاعرية مفرطة تكتب "دلال خليفة" مجموعتها القصصية "الخيل وفضاءات البنفسج" والتي تضم ثماني قصص صغيرة اعتمدت على لغة شفافة وشاعرية في آن في "الخيل وفضاءات البنفسج" تحاول الأديبة التعبير عن حال الإنسانية بصور بيانية تارة ودلالية تارة أخرى بشكل سردي مليء بالاسقاطات التي تمتلىء بها القصة: نقول "ظلت الخيول عصوراً سعيدة بوحشيتها.. عصور وعصور وهي تتراكض حين شاءت وتنتشر قطعانه هنا وهناك... بشموخها الآسر إلى أن استأنسها الإنسان.. وعندئذ ولدت الفروسية".
تدور أحداث القصة حول بنفسج، الفتاة التي تعشق الخيول، لم توقف في حياتها الزوجية مرتين والآن تبحث عن الفارس الذي تعيش معه عمرها، هي تريده فارساً كما في مخيلتها وعندما يأتي تصرَ أن يدخل إلى ساحة العرس على فرسه، ولكن هذا الفارس أيضاً يخيب آمالها ويخدعها ويسلب منها مزرعة خيولها...
ربما أرادت الكاتبة يتوظيفها لتلك الدلالات والأمكنة كالأسطبل والمزرعة التعبير عن العمق السيميولوجي الذي يسمح بالتعبير الواقعي عن رغبات الإنسان، والذي يصل به إلى المعزى الحقيقي الكامن وراء الأحداث في القصة. وخصوصاً عندما تشبه الخيول بالبشر، والبشر بالخيول، فتقول بنفسج عن أحد الخيول: " هذا الحصان بالذات أشعر أن به الكثير من الصفات البشرية" بينما نجدها تشبَه البشر بالخيل فتقول واصفة بنفسج: "الإنكسار لا يناسبها، لا يناسبها إلا القوة والمرح، جمالها في وقوفها مرفوعة الرأس كالمهرة" وهذا يعني أن بطلة قصتها شخصية غيجابية تتصارع مع الحياة لتخرج من هذا الواقع بقوة إرادة الحياة...
