وقد تعرضت قصة "الرجل الذي يريد أن ينسى" إلى أهمية النسيان في نجاح العلاقات الإنسانية وإستمراريتها، تحكي قصة رجل فقير جاء بعد شهرين من حصوله على ثروة أبيه إلى ساحرة طيبة تساعد المحتاجين، ليشكوا إليها خيانة صديقه علي الذي سرق ماله كله بعد أن عقد صفقات بإسمه تلزمه مالياً، وبذلك فقد تركه مديوناً وطلب منها أن ينسى ما حدث بدل من الإنتقام، لأنه يتألم كثيراً كلما تذكر الأمر، فحققت الساحرة رغبته.
وبعد شهرين عاد الرجل يشكوا إليها خيانة صديقه وقد تكرر الأمر مرات عديدة، وقد كانت الساحرة الطيبة تنصحه بمواجهة الأمر بدل من النسيان فتنتهي القصة بنهايتين يختارها القارئ بنفسه أو يصنع فيها نهاية أخرى ليستخلص مغزى أننا حتى لو نسينا كل ما آلمنا لجرينا مثل الرجل بكل بلاهة لنرتكب الخطأ ذاته الآن المرات.
لذلك تسعى الروائية "دلال خليفة" إلى تسليط الضوء على بعض الثوابت في المجتمع الذي يحتاجها الفرد لكي يحافظ على إتزانه ويستخلص منها العبر؛ وهذا ما راعته في قصصها الثلاثة الأخريات: حقول الياسمين، الوصية، طعم الإنقراض.
