اختلفت آراء الفقهاء والعلماء نحو ظاهرة الحجاب بين مؤيد ومعارض، ومعظم الكتابات عن الحجاب ناقشته من الحياة الشرعية، أما الدراسات التي تناولت الحجاب من الناحية الإجتماعية: فإنها محدودة للغاية في العالم العربي، وليس هناك أي دراسة علمية متعمقة (حسب علم الباحثة) تناولته من الناحية الإجتماعية في المجتمع السعودي لحساسية الموضوع، وعلى الرغم من أن الحجاب قضية المرأة في المقام الأول، إلا أن معظم الكتابات عنه كانت من جانب الرجل.
لذا تسعى هذه الدراسة الإجتماعية إلى مناقشة قضية الحجاب من وجهة نظر المرأة السعودية نفسها، والتمييز بين العباءة والحجاب، وتوضيح ما هو الحجاب من وجهة نظر المرأة؟ هل هو غطاء المرأة بالكامل من الرأس إلى القدمين؟ أم هو غطاء الرأس ما عدا الوجه والكفين؟ أم هو الإحتشام فقط؟ وكم عدد المحجبات في عينة الدراسة؟ وكيف تصنف المرأة السعودية نفسها دينياً؛ ملتزمة أم معتدلة أو غير ملتزمة؟ وما هو مفهوم المرأة للإلتزام الديني؟ وما هي الدوافع الإجتماعية التي تدفع المرأة السعودية لإرتداء الحجاب؟ هل من الناحية الدينية فقط، أم هناك عوامل أخرى تدفعها اللبس الحجاب؟ وما هي إتجاهات المرأة السعودية نحو الحجاب؟ وهل تؤثر العوامل الإجتماعية: كالعمر أو التعليم أو الدخل أو الطبقة الإجتماعية أو الخلفية الإجتماعية أو الحالة الإجتماعية أو المنطقة الجغرافية على إتجاهات المرأة نحو الحجاب؟ وما هو هذا التأثير؟ أسئلة كثيرة حاولت الباحثة مناقشتها بموضوعية لمعرفة الحقيقة من وجهة نظر المرأة السعودية.
إنَّ هذه الدراسة تتفق مع مبادرة خادم الحرمين الشريفين الخاصة بحوار الأديان، وتعميق مبدأ التسامُّح بين الأديان والشعوب المختلفة، ذلك أنه كثيراً ما نختزل الحكم على المرأة كملتزمة أو معتدلة أو متساهلة من خلال لبسها للحجاب أو للعباءة فقط، كما أننا أحياناً نسيء الحكم على الأخريات من طريقة إرتدائهن للحجاب.
لذا، آمل أن تساعد هذه الدراسة في تحقيق التقبُّل بين أبناء شعبنا الواحد، ذلك أنه أولى بنا كشعب مسلم أن نتقبل بعضنا الآخر، ونحترم إختلافاتنا بغض النظر عن إتجاهاتنا الدينية ومعتقداتنا قبل أن نتقبل الشعوب الأخرى، وهذا ما يساعد على تحقيق الوحدة الوطنية التي هي هدف قومي سامٍ تسعى إليه كل الشعوب.
