في المجتمع السعودي يفهم بعض المهتمين والعاملين في مجال تمكين المرأة أن المراد به تمكين المرأة من الحصول على حقوقها الطبيعية والشرعية التي قد يطالها الظلم لسبب من الأسباب فتحرم من بعضها بغير وجه حق. ولا شك أن هذا الأمر مطلب شرعي لا يختلف حوله مسلمان. الفريق الآخر المتوجس من الدعوة المطلقة لتمكين المرأة لا يختلف مع الفريق الأول، لكنه يفرق بين المعنى المتبادر للذهن حسب ثقافة المجتمع، والمصطلح العالمي الذي نبت في بيئة أخرى، وغذته فلسفات نتجت عن واقع مغاير لواقعنا. فالتمكين هنا داع للتمركز حول الأنثى، محرض على مناطحة ما يسمى السلطة الذكورية، مؤجج للصراع بين الجنسين، مدعم لفلسفة الفردية المطلقة. رؤية الأمم المتحدة قائمة على أن حجر الزاوية في التنمية هو تنمية البشر، والتنمية البشرية لا يمكن أن تتحقق إلا بالتسوية المطلقة بين الجنسين، وهذا يقتضي التسوية التامة في الجوانب التنموية الأخرى، خلافا للثقافية الإسلامية التي تجعل العدالة أساس التنمية، والقدرة والإمكان أساس التكليف، والوحي الإطار الذي لا يتعداه أي عامل رجلا كان أو امرأة. دراسة: “التمكين الاجتماعي والاقتصادي للمرأة السعودية ودورها في التنمية من منظور التربية الإسلامية” تجلي هذين المفهومين. وتبين الدور المرتجى من المرأة السعودية في التنمية، ومعالم التمكين الاجتماعي والاقتصادي الذي تنشده المرأة السعودية. وميزة الدراسة أنها ميدانية، سمعت صوت السعوديات، والتزمت بمرجعيتهن الشرعية، والتفتت للمحيط العالمي.
