الشيخ "إبراهيم المنذر" هو زعيم ثورة عامة شملت السياسة، والأدب، والتربية، والصحافة، والاجتماع. ما كانت النيابة عن الشعب-وقد نالها بتفوق لا مثيل له، ولم تكلفه أكثر من ربع ليرة لبنانية ثمن الطابع-سوى مظهر من مظاهر نضاله الطويل والمفيد خلال نصف قرن.
بدأ ثورته على الأتراك ثم على الاحتلال الفرنسي، فحكم عليه العثمانيون بالإعدام، إذ حكموا على الشهداء الأبرار أيام الحرب العالمية الأولى، ونجا من أرجوحة الأبطال بأعجوبة وشفاعة كريمة وتزكية من الأمير شكيب إرسلان واضطهده الفرنسيون في مطلع الاحتلال، فغادر بلده ردحاً من الزمن، وظل يكتب في صحف سورية ومصر والمهجر بجرأة المؤمن برسالته، لا يرضى عن الاستقلال والسيادة بديلاً، وينتقد بأسلوبه اللاذع الجريء السلطات المغتصبة، ويميط اللثام عن الخونة الذين باعوا أنفسهم للأجنبي.
هذا هو الثائر الذي يتحدث عنه هذا الكتاب سارداً للقارئ، تفاصيل هذه الحياة الثائرة، الزاخرة بالأحداث الجسام، وبالمقاومة ضد الاحتلال "حديث نائب" إذن ليس سجلاً لأقواله وأحاديثه في داخل المجلس فقط، لكنه يضم أيضاً المقالات النارية التي نشرتها له صحف لبنان وسوريا ومصر والمهاجر فأحدثت دوياً وحققت أهدافاً، وكشفت للجماهير عن حقائق المغتصبين الحاكمين أجانب كانوا أو مواطنين، وشقت الطريق أمام مواكب الحرية في سيرة دامت-دون انقطاع-أكثر من نصف قرن.
