ولد تيم باركس في مانشستر عام 1954، نشأ في لندن ودرس في كل من جامعتي كامبريدج وهارفارد، ألَّف باركس العديد من الأعمال الأدبية وغير الأدبية، منها "أوروبا" المدرجة في القائمة القصيرة لجائزة البوكر عام 1997.
فازت روايته الأولى "ألسنة اللهب" بجائزة بيتي تراسك عام 1986، عمل مدرّساً ومترجماً، درَّس الترجمة الأدبية والتقنية في الجامعة المستقلَّة للغات المعاصرة بالقرب من مدينة ميلانو، من بين ترجماته أعمال لألبرتو مورافيا وأنطونيو تابوكي وإيتالو كالفينو وروبيرتو كالاسو.
يمكن للمرء إدراج أي عدد من الروايات - أوقات عصبية، كوخ العم توم، الإبن الأصلي - تلك التي أثارت مستوى حاداً من الجدل الشَّعبي، غالباً لكونها اشتملت على حبكة مغرية بالإضافة إلى قضايا تهم الناس بعمق في تينك الزمان والمكان المحددين.
