" طيب الكلام بفوائد السلام" كتاب متصدِّرٌ في بحث أحكام وحِكَم السلام وأسراره، أجاب فيه مؤلفه العلامة السمهودي على أسئلة في غاية الدقة والتمحيص تتعلق بهذه السنة النبوية الحميدة. وهذه الأسئلة هي من رَقْم المحقق المدقق علامة الحنفية في عصره الإمام قطلوبغا الحنفي. كان قد جمعها وبعث بها لبعض العلماء يستطلب لها جواباً، فلم يحظ بطلبته. وكان من نعيم الحظِّ أن يقف عليه العلامة السمهودي ويفتق القول في الإجابة عنها.
ولقد ضمت هذه الأسئلة الكثير من المسائل النحوية والاشتقاقية والحِكَمية. إضافة لما حوته من العلوم الشرعية واللغوية، حتى كاد هذا المؤلَّف أن يكون مرجعاً من أمتن المراجع في بحث علل وأحكام السلام. فبحث مصنفه بمعنى السلام وحقيقته، وأصله الاشتقاقي، وهو خبري أو إنشائي، وما يتعلق بذلك من أبحاث لغوية. وبيَّن بعد ذلك ما يقصد من المعاني عند إفشاء السلام، واختلاف الصيغ فيه لإبراز معنى خفي أو جلي.
ثم تحدث عنه من وجهة نظر شرعية، فمن ذلك تقديمه على كثير من التحيات المسموعة عن العرب، والحكمة في طلبه، وضوابط صور السلام في المجامع العامة والخاصة. وقد خصص مكاناً واسعاً للحديث عن السلام على الأنبياء وغيرهم بطريق التبع أو الأصالة، واختلاف الصيغ، أو سبب اختيار وتقديم بعضها على الآخر. وختم مطافه هذا بخاتمة نفيسة جمع فيها ما بقي من مسائل السلام ليكون كتابه جامعاً مانعاً.
