إن ملحمة جلجامش هي أول عمل أدبي تجاوز بيئته لينتشر في معظم أرجاء العالم المتحضر في زمنه، ويترجم إلى أكثر لغة مشرقية قديمة، ثم تجاوز فترته التاريخية ليسمو قرابة الألفين من الأعوام حباً في العالم القديم، وهاهو اليوم يبعث إلى حياة جديدة في ثقافتنا الراهنة، فأي مثال على خلود العمل الفني الذي يتخطى مواجز الزمان والمكان تقدمه لنا ملحمة جلجامش! بعد أربعة آلاف عام من تدوين نصها الأكادي، يقرؤها البشر من شتى الثقافات في جهات العالم الأربع اليوم، وكأنها كتبت خاتمة الأمس. تمشي مع بطلها في تجواله كأنه منا، يحدثنا وتحدثه كأنه واحدنا يمشي وظله، أو كأنما يناجي نفسه، فجلجامش لم يعد ذلك الملك الذي عاش في مدينة "أروك السومرية" في زمن ما من تلك الأزمان القديمة السابقة للميلاد، وقصته لم تعد قصة فرد معين عاش دورة حياة خاصة به، بمحدوديتها ومشاغلها الذاتية، بل لقد صار رمزاً من رموز الشكل الإنساني، وصارت قصته حواراً مفتوحاً حول الشرط الإنساني، لقد تحدى "برد ميشيوس" الإغريقي الآلهة ليجلب للبشر سر النار، أما جلجامش فقد ناطح الآلهة ليجلب لنا سر الحياة ومفتاح لغز الموت ومغزى العيش في هذا العمر الضيق.
ويبقى جلجامش مصدر إغواء دائم بالبحث، وفهد أبو عيسى الذي وقع رهينة هذا الإغواء يقدم في هذا الكتاب ملمحة جلجامش مصاغة بأسلوب شعري موزون مقفى وذلك بهدف وصفها في إطارها الملحمي الصحيح. ومن أجل إنجاز هذا العمل كان عليه أن يستعين ببعض التراجم العربية مثل: "ملامح وأساطير" للدكتور أنيس فريحة، أوديسة العراق الخالدة "لطة باقر" وملحمة جلجامش "لفراس السواح" وغيرها.
"يا أساطير أعصر الأولينا، عن رجالاتِ "سومرٍ" حدثينا/ عن حضارات بقعة مصطفاةٍ محّدتها صحائف الخالدينا/عن أقاصيص دوّنوها رموزاً، فغزتها أصابع المفسدينا نقلوها وشوّهوا محتواها، أولولها على هى المغرضينا/أقرئينا ألواح شعبً عريقٍ فسّرتها يراعة الباحثينا/فحبتنا ملاحماً خالدات، خلفتها قرائح المبدعينا".
