يتحدث هذا الكتاب عن شخصية الفقيه أبي محمد بن أبي زيد القيرواني وذلك من خلال حلقات درسه وتدريسه ومطالعة آثاره وتفهم أقواله واستطلاع آرائه, فقد اعتمد المنهج التاريخي محاولاً استنطاق النصوص للظفر بأصدافها دون قشورها وبلبها دون نواتها معتمداً في ذلك وبالدرجة الأولى على مصادر إفريقية مغربية وأندلسية. وقد بحث الكتاب في عدة مواضيع هامة وقد قسمت الى أبواب وفصول أهمها: الحديث عن عصر أبي محمد وبيئته من الناحية السياسية والاجتماعية والاقتصادية والفكرية كما تناول فيه الحديث عن تاريخ المدارس الفقهية بالقيروان من أثرية وأوزاعية وظاهرية وحنفية ومالكية. ابن أبي زيد من الميلاد الى ساعة التحمل والأداء وفيه تحدث من الميلاد الى الدراسة, وبيان لشيوخ ابن أبي زيد, وبيان لطلبته. شخصية أبي محمد الاجتماعية والعلمية وفيه دار الحديث عن أبو محمد والمجتمع القيرواني, وآرائه التجديدية, وفاته. وفيه اظهار مؤلفاته حيث يتحدث عن الشيخ المؤلف, وموسوعات أبي محمد الفقهية. وفيه من المدونة الى النوادر والزيادات وقد اشتمل على نصوص من المدونة والنوادر والزيادات لإبراز آراء أبي محمد وقد تناولت أبواب الطهارة وضوءاً وتيمماً وغسلاً والباب الأول من الصلاة.
