يأتي هذا الكتاب استجابة لرغبة الدارسين لمادة علم الدلالة والمعجم العربي وفق منهاج وزارة التعليم العالي، وقد حرص فيه على تغطية مفردات المنهاج بسعة تزيد من ثقافة الدارس، وتمكنه بالأمثلة والتدريبات من فهم المادة بسهولة ويسر. وقد جاء الكتاب في قسمين: الأول في علم الدلالة، وفيه خمس وحدات هي: النظام اللغوي ومنزلة دلالة الألفاظ منه، العلاقة بين اللفظ ودلالته، مظاهر تغير الدلالة، تغير دلالات الألفاظ، وسائل تطوير دلالات الألفاظ، القسم الثاني جاء في المعجم العربي وفيه ثلاثة وحدات هي: نشأة المعجم العربي وتطوره، معجمات الألفاظ، معجمات المعاني.
