يحاول المؤلف في هذا الكتاب إثبات أن العروبة والحقيقة اللبنانية في نتاج الرواد اللبنانيين الأوائل، إسمان لمسمى واحد، وذلك من خلال رصده، وتتبعه لكتابات هؤلاء المعبرة والواضحة التي لا لبوس فيها ولا إبهام. فهو يتناوب على قراءة نتاجهم بعقل القانوني، وخيال الأديب، وفكر الباحث لصياغة مرافعة. صنع حيثياتها قلم محام ضاق بجفاف النصوص وحضارها فغادرها إلى رحاب الأدب والفكر بأبدع في ثنائية العطاء هذه.
قد تخالفه في النتائج التي انتهى إليها، ولكنك تحترم حكمه وتتفق معه فلا تملك إلا الإعجاب والثناء. وإذ يستحضر الكاتب السابقين من رواد الفكر، وأهل القلم، ويستنجد بمقولاتهم للرد دفاعا عن العروبة، ورفعاً للتهمة عن الحقيقة اللبنانية فلأن شيوع الالتباسات، وتداول الاشكاليات، لا يعتبران عدواناً على الحقيقة وحسب، وإنما إساءة إلى التراث وتزويراً للتاريخ.
من هذه الزاوية يقدم الكاتب خدمة وطنية وأدبية في آن واحد، وهو يتناول كتاباً بعينهم، أو بعض أعمالهم، أو جانباً من جوانب نشاطهم الفكري، لهم خصوصيات منها أنهم كتبوا في ظروف مختلفة، وفي مراحل متباعدة من تاريخ البلد، لكنهم تقاطعوا عند الحقيقة الواحدة وعكسوها في كتاباتهم منطلقين من الاعتقاد الراسخ بأن العروبة هي قدر لبنان. ومن الرواد الإعلام الذين استحضرهم المؤلف في كتابه هذا نذكر، "الريحاني عبقرية تتحدى، جبران في الميزان، مارون عبود، عمر فاخوري، الياس أبو شبكة، رئيف خوري، الياس فرحات، مخائيل صوايا، فؤاد جرداق...
في الحقيقة اللبنانية، حقائق كثيرة كتبها عمر الأديب واحدة بعد الأخرى، حقائق ما زال تتجدد في خضم الأحداث التي أعادت نفسها دفعة واحدة في زحمة التاريخ... وفي سوق الحقائق... حقائق رآها عمر السياسي تزدحم على باب المستقبل وتقرعه بيد حملت كل عزم الشعب على صنع وطن لا شبه وطن، وطن لا ينعزل في ذاته ولا يعزله أحد.
وهكذا وجدتني أردد قول عمر: "يجب أن نمنع أسباب الحريق، وأن نبعد عن البيت المحرّقين. لنقل بصراحة: لا يمكن أن يكون لبنان وطناً مسيحياً، ولا وطناً إسلامياً... لا يمكن أن يكون وطناً لأي دين من الأديان، أو مذهب من المذاهب، لا يصح أن يكون لبنان إلا وطناً لجميع اللبنانيين على السواء"...
