مؤلف هذا الكتاب صديق حميم وقريب من الجنرال عون، عايش في مرحلة الطفولة والنمو، وحتى أصبح جنرالاً وقائداً للجيش اللبناني. في هذا الكتاب، يرد المؤلف على من حاول التطاول على الجنرال وإلصاق التهم به، راداً على الكثيرين، الذين بينه وبينهم خصومه سياسية أو شخصيته، حاول إنصافه كما يقول لأن الجنرال عون ليس ضابطاً كسائر الضباط، غذ يعدد المؤلف ظاهرة جديدة وجدية، فهمتها الجماهير ولم يشأ أن يفهمها بعض الساسة بعض القادة فالرجل كما يقول المؤلف أراد للبنان أن يولد ولادة جديدة ولم يرده أن يكون مزرعة أفيون.
الجنرال عون مناضل وطني صادق لم تؤثر السياسة في أخلاقياته ولم تنل منه المؤامرات والدسائس. يتتبع المؤلف سيرة حياة عون منذ ولادته ثم وهو طفل صغير قبل أن يدخل المدرسة الحربية، ثم انتقاله من شالون إلى صيدا قبل أن يسطع نجمه في سوق الغرب ويتحول إلى قائد جديد.
كما يروي قصة وصوله إلى القصر الجمهوري ومحاولة اغتياله قبل أن يخرج إلى منفاه، وفي الكتاب صور شخصية تجمع المؤلف إلى الجنرال عون في عدة مناسبات.
