يعد الشيخ "محمد بن سالم البيجاني" من الرجال الذين اجتمعت فيهم الصفات المطلوبة في العلم بالتوحيد وحسن العقيدة والحديث والتفسير والسيرة، أما مصنفاته فعديدة ومن أشهرها ديوانه المعروف "بالعطر اليماني" من أشعار البيجاني، وله أفضل من ذلك "السيرة النبوية بالنظم" وهو ديوانه المشهور "بأشعة الأنوار".
وله أيضاً مقتطفات كثيرة ومن بينها هذه والأرجوزة التي بين أيدينا والجامعة بين النظم والنثر، والمشهورة برباعيات البيجاني والتي تقارب مئة وثلاثين رباعية وقد تفنن في تنظيم هذه الرباعيات فصدرها بأربعة أبيات يستهدف فيها أمراً معيناً من الأمور ثم يتبعها بما يستدل به من الآيات القرآنية والأحاديث النبوية والاستشهادات من الوقائع، ولما كان من الأنسب تقديم الاستدلال بالقرآن والسنة قبل إيراد الرباعية، فقد اعتنى المحقق بتغير التنظيم في هذه الطبعة فقام بوضع الآيات القرآنية أولاً ثم أدرج الأحاديث النبوية وأتبعها بالنظم، كما وبذل المحقق جهداً في تعديل بعض الأفكار التي يجب القول عنها لتغير طبائع الزمن.
