يمثل هذا الكتاب -نظما وشرحا- أحد نماذج إسهام المدرسة الأزهرية في خدمة علوم السُّنَّة المشرَّفة، فقد قام العلامة الشيخ محمد البسيوني البيباني (المالكي الأزهري المتوفى سنة 1310هـ) بنظم مقدمة القسطلاني في علم الحديث، التي قدَّم بها القسطلاني لشرحه على صحيح البخاري. وقد تميزت منظومة البيباني عن غيرها من المختصرات المنظومة كالبيقونية وغيرها بعدم اقتصارها على التعريفات، بل اشتملت على الأقسام والشروط، مع ضرب الأمثلة وتعقُّبات أهل الفنِّ. وجاء العلامة الأبياري فشرح المنظومة شرحا وافيا، جمع فيه بوجه مختصر كل ما يحتاج إليه طالب هذا العلم، موشِّحا الشرح بالكثير من الفرائد والفوائد.
