تعتبر هذه الترجمة اسهاماً في التعريف بأحد أبرز وجوه الشعر العالمي، لما تحتله "الرباعيات" من موقع مهم في شعر إليوت، الذي أثار ويثير يوماً بعد يوم الانتباه إليه بصفته أحد كبار الشعراء المجددين في العالم. توفيق صايغ شاعر طليعي مجدد لعب دوراً بارزاً في الحياة الشعرية العربية منذ منتصف القرن. ترجم توفيق صايغ هذه الرباعيات لـ ت.س.أليوت الشاعر الإنكليزي من أصل أميركي قبل نحو ثلاثين عاماً من اليوم، وظهرت أولاً، في مجلة "أصوات" اللندنية خلال عامي 1961-1962. ولم ينشرها في كتاب إلا في العام 1970 عندما ظهرت في بيروت مسبوقة بمقدمة قيمة توضح معمياتها وغموضها، استند توفيق صايغ في كتابتها إلى أكثر من خمسين مرجعاً نقدياً لها، ثبتها كلها في الاستهلال. تعتبر هذه الترجمة إسماهاً قيماً في التعريف بأحد أبرز وجوه الشعر العالمي، لما تحتله "الرباعيات" من موقع مهم في شعر إليوت، الذي أثار ويثير يوماً بعد يوم الانتباه إليه بصفته أحد كبار الشعراء المجددين في العالم.
