في أوديسا الأفكار والمفاهيم التي أفرزتها المنظومة المعرفية في القرن العشرين، يبرز (النقد الأسلوبي) كاتجاه يقوم فيه النقد على أساس من العلم. ويقدر ما كان هذا الاتجاه رفضاً للانطباعية التي تسيدت الوضع النقدي الأوروبي في النصف الثاني من القرن التاسع عشر بقدر ما كان استجابة للتحولات الدرامية التي شهدها الدرس اللساني الحديث ومدى إسهاماته في الدراسات النقدية، فالنقد الأسلوبي هو دراسة العلاقة المرصودة في النص الأدبي بين شكله اللساني وشكله الجمالي الكلي. قد يتوحدن التحليل الأسلوبي والتقويم الجمالي بطريقة يسهم فيها الشكل اللساني بذلك التأثير الجمالي الذي يمارسه النص على القارئ. في ضوء هذه الآلية، يقدم كتاب (القصائد المائية) ممارسة نقدية على مدونة جادة في الشعرية العربية المعاصرة، هي مدونة الشاعر (نزار قباني).
