إذا كانت السيميائيات دراسة المعنى أو فلسفة المعنى والكيفية التي يتخلق بها تمثيل المعاني عبر العلامات، لغة كانت أم صورة، وإذا كانت الترجمة نقلا للثقافات العابرة من خلال الرموز، فإن النقد السيميائي يُعنى بتأويل الخطاب وإضاءة ماله من قيمة ثقافية بواسطة أنظمة الرمز. هذه الحقول المعرفية الإنسانية المترابطة مرتبطة بالدرجة الأساس بمحوري العلامة والثقافة. وفي أمواج المعرفة الزرقاء هذه يَجِدُ الفكر في البحث عن المعنى وإنتاجه وتأويله مادام الإنسان يعمر سطح هذا الكوكب، فالمعنى العشبة التي تبحث عنها السلالات الإنسانية منذ نشأة الخلق.
العلامات تحيط بالعالمين، والكلمات لا تكون دونما صور، والكائنات لا ترتقي دونما معنى. هذا التصور يشكل البنية الأساس لكتاب (أوديسا الرمز: دراسات في الكون السيميائي). الكتاب مغامرة جديدة في تحليل منتوجات الثقافة المكتوبة والمرئية. اللسانيات تعنى بنظام الرموز اللفظية، إي اللغة، لكنما السيميائيات تتعداها لتدرس نظم العلامات لدى الحيوان والنبات، بل أبعد من ذلك لتشمل دراسة الرسائل التي تبثها المرئيات الصورية والأبنية الموسيقية عبر (السيميائيات البصرية).
السيميائيات في المسار العام نظرية النُظم الرمزية وانتاج العلامات، وفي الكون الثقافي تحليل وتأويل الأشكال الثقافية ذات المعاني.
