هذا الكتاب هو الجزء الأول من جزءين اختار لهما المؤلف اثنين وعشرين مقالة "تبحث في جوانب عدة من العلاقات المسيحية الإسلامية في الماضي والحاضر. ويتألف الجزء الذي بين أيدينا في اثنتي عشرة مقالة رتبت بحسب الموضوع تحت عنوانين رئيسيين. الأول يبحث موضوعاً هاماً يعني المسيحيين والمسلمين وهو نظرة المسلمين إلى شخص السيّد المسيح، وقد سماه المؤلف "نحو خريستولوجيا إسلامية".
يبدأ هذا القسم ببعض المقالات العامة حول النظرات الإسلامية إلى شخصية السيد المسيح، ثم ينتقل إلى بحث بعض المواضيع اللاهوتية الهامة مثل معنى لفظي "ابن" و"ولد" في القرآن الكريم وفي التفسير منذ عصر الطبري إلى يومنا هذا. ثم ينتقل إلى بحث قضية هامة وهي قضية صلب السيد المسيح وهل كان موته بحسب القرآن والتفسير حقيقة أم توهماً. وموضوع ثالث أقرب إلى الوجدان الإسلامي التعبديّ وهو صورة للسيد المسيح في الأدب الشيعي المبكر، أما القسم الثاني من الكتاب فيدور حول بعض جوانب العلاقات الإسلامية المسيحية والمفاهيم المشتركة بين الديانتين. يبدأ هذا القسم ببحث مفهوم أهل الذمة في القرآن والحديث وتحليله، كما يبين أثر هذا المفهوم في علاقات المسيحيين بالمسلمين وبالتالي العلاقات المسيحية-الإسلامية بوجه عام. ومن المفاهيم المشتركة الهامة بين المسيحية والإسلام مفهوم الشهادة وما تحمله من معنى الفداء، إما اللاهوتي وإما الوجداني لدى المؤمنين المسيحيين والمسلمين.
