يصوغ الشاعر فاضل سوداني نصه في "ثمة كابوس في الشرفات" بطريقة دينامية نمائية، تسهم في تكثيف الإيحاءات، والأبعاد داخل الصورة الشعرية التي تمتح موادها، من ابعاد ذاتية، وطبيعية، وتاريخية، ورمزية، تنم عن رؤية الشاعر التي يرغب في إبرازها في النص، ولتشكل في النهاية العمود الفقري الذي يُبنى عليه النص.
في القصيدة المعنونة "زمن الشاعر" نقرأ: "الشاعر في فضاء لا يُسمّى... حاملاً أشياءه... واثباً في النار المقدسة... هناك سيسمع موسيقى كونية... ولا إنسانية المدن الحجرية... الغابات والبحار... والجحيم في عهدته... يمنح الأشياء شكلها... الكلام معناه... الليل لغته... القمر... والنجوم أيضاً... يُخبئ مفاتيح الوجود... في قبضة قلبه... وما يخلفه في الصحراء... لا ينفع البرابرة".
هذا الخلق الفني يتسع في النص عبر رؤية شعرية يسجل فيها الشاعر سوداني رؤيته لعالم الشعراء الداخلي في ظل حركة الأشياء والموجودات وذلك عبر إدخالها في مختبره الحسي، وصوغها في سلسلة أفكار حلمية وتأملية تراكمية...
يضم الكتاب قصائد متنوعة في الشعر العربي الحديث نذكر من عناوينها: "سر التجسد"، "عندما تركني الفجر"، "حديقة الشعراء"، "قصر الموتى"، "نص بصري لسيدة المراثي"، "ثمة كابوس ينتظر في الشرفات"... وقصائد أخرى.
