الطب العسكري طب حديث في مضمونه وطرق علاجه، فهو جاء ليلبي التطورات الحديثة في التكنولوجيا العسكرية، فالأمراض التي يتعرض لها الجنود والمقاتلون أصبحت محوراً للعلم الحديث، تعقد لها الاجتماعات والندوات وتصدر عنها التقارير والتوصيات، وكل ذلك جاء لخدمة هذا الطب.
وقد أشارت الموسوعة التي بين يدينا إلى المبادئ العامة للطب العسكري في المواقع الأمامية وما يلحقها من مراحل العناية الطبية والإصابات الجماعية، متوقفة عند الإصابات التي يتعرض لها الجنود كالانسداد التنفسي وجروح الصدر والصدمة وكيفية السيطرة عليها والإرواء والإخلاء.
ثم عالجت قضية الضحايا الذين يسقطون في أرض المعركة فصنفت الحوادث والضحايا وطرق الأضرار، ثم تحدث عن الجروح التي تسببها المقذوفات الحربية من صواريخ وقنابل، وما يتبعها من حروف بأنواعها، ثم وقفت عند إصابات البرد التي تلحق بالمقاتلين وإصابات المواد الكيماوية وأثر هذه الإصابات على المصابين بها سلوكياً ونفسيا.
وقد افرد جزءاً كبيراً إلى موضوع الإصابات الجماعية في الحرب النووية-الحرارية، متوقفة عند تأثيرات هذه الأسلحة على الجنود نفسياً وعضوياً مثل الحروق الحرارية وإصابات العصف وإصابات الإشعاع وخاصة اليورانيوم.
ثم عالجت موضوع الإصابات المتعددة والمتنوعة، وما يتبعها من التهابات في الأنسجة والعضلات، وأشارت إلى طرق علاج هذه الإصابات والجروح ثم تحدث عن إصابات العظام والمفاصل والدماغ والقحف وكذلك إصابات الفك والوجه والعين والأذن والرقبة والصدر والبطن وأيضاً إصابات وجروح الجهاز التناسلي والبولي وأنهيناه بجروح وإصابات اليد.
