يؤرخ هذا الكتاب لدولة الأدارسة التي قامت في المغرب والأندلس، وهكذا انقسم هذا الكتاب لجزئين جزء تعلق بدولة الأدارسة التي قامت في المغرب واحتوى على أربعة فصول، تحدث الأول عن استمرار الدولة موحدة حتى قدوم الفاطميين، وتناول الثاني مسالة خضوع الدولة للفاطميين والصراع الأدارسة وموسى بن أبي العافية البربري وهزيمتهم وموقف المغاربة المؤيد لهم ضد ابن أبي العافية.
وأشار الفصل الثالث إلى التدخل الأموي في شؤون المغرب هذا التدخل الذي أدى إلى سقوطها فيما بعد. وبحث الفصل الأخير في أهم الأحداث التي حدثت في عهدهم من اقتصادية واجتماعية وكذلك الحركة العمرانية. وهذا كله جاء في نطاق الجزء الأول أما الجزء الثاني والمختص بالدولة في الأندلس فانقسم مضمونه إلى أربعة فصول أيضاً تناولت الحديث عن أحفاد إدريس الحموديون وصولهم للحكم في الأندلس، حكمهم له، الصراع الذي دار بينهم وبين الصقالبة والفتيان العامريين في مرحلة كانت الأندلس قد دخلت فيها مرحلة الانحطاط...
