إن في حياة كل شخص تجربة إنسانية فريدة ليس لها مثيل مطابق، ولأن ما يكتبه عن حياته لا بد أن يرافقه تصوير للمرحلة التي عاش بها، وإذا كانت الفترة الزمنية مرافقة لقضية تاريخية هامة كالقضية الفلسيطينية، زاد ذلك في أهمية ما يكتب. وهذا ما تميزت به مذكرات هذا الكتاب الذي يعرض من خلالها بهجت أبو غربية ترجمة لحياته التي تتداخل فصولها وفصول القضية الفلسطينية دون أن يعني ذلك أنه مؤرخ لهذه القضية وذلك لأن فترة حياته ارتبطت بالقضية الفلسطينية والنضال العربي من ناحيتين، الأولى: هي الفترة التاريخية فقد ولد مع ولادة قضية فلسطين وعاش معظم حياته في أخطر مراحل هذه القضية. الثانية: أنه لم يعش على هامش هذه القضية وأحداثها، بل شارك في نضال الشعب الفلسطيني ضد الهجمة الاستعمارية الصهيونية على الأمة العربية في القرن العشرين، تلك الهجمة التي سعت إلى إقامة دولة صهيونية على أرض فلسطين. لذا سيلاحظ القارئ أنه لم يكن لبهجت أبو غربية حياة خارج إطار القضية الفلسطينية بخاصة والقضية العربية بعامة.
تغطي هذه المذكرات، التي كتبها مناضل فلسطيني بارز، بعض الأحداث الكبرى في تاريخ النضال الوطني الفلسطيني: ثورة 1929 وثورة 1936-1939، وتشكيل الأحزاب السياسية الفلسطينية، وتأليف اللجنة العربية العليا، وردات الفعل على قـرار الأمـم المتحدة بتقسيم فلسطين، واندلاع الحرب في 1947-1948. وقد عاش المؤلف أحداث تلك الحقبة وشارك فيها على ساحة النضال، وخصوصاً في مدينة القدس التي خاض معاركها ودافع عنها.
