ما زال ابن رشد يحظى باهتمام عظيم إلى اليوم في الشرق أو في الغرب، بل أنه حظي خلال السنوات الأخيرة باهتمام يفوق ما حظي به أي فيلسوف مسلم آخر. كذلك درس تأثيره في فلسفة العصور الوسطى المسيحية واليهودية ابتداء من منتصف القرن الماضي، وقد أتت دراسات ابن رشد شاملة لعلوم عصره ولثقافة أهل بيئته، فعلاوة على الفقهيات والدراسات اللغوية، عبّ من العلوم البحتة ما استطاع إلى ذلك سبيلاً مثل الرياضيات والفلكيات وعلوم الطب وممارسة الجراحة، وأجاد متبحراً في فلسفتي أفلاطون وأرسطو من حيث السياسيات الأخلاقيات والاجتماعية من جهة، ومن حيث الطبيعيات والمنطقيات والنفسانيات والإلهيات، وهذه الموسوعة تعبر في حقيقتها عن فضاء ابن رشد الفكري وهمومه العملية الدينية، وهي تعكس في مختلف المصطلحات عن عديدٍ من هذه العلوم، وتبين مدى تعمقه في كل منها، وقد تناولت هذه الموسوعة كل ما حقق تقريباُ من أمهات مؤلفات ابن رشد وتفرعاتها، وفي مختلف العلوم، كما أضيف إلى المجموعة مؤلَّفَين ظهرا مؤخراً.
وأما منهجية تحقيق الموسوعة فقد جاءت على الشكل التالي: أولاً تنظيم مضامين المصطلحات، ثم اختيار الموضوعات الرئيسة الجلّية، والتي تفي بتعريف المصطلح وبيان أبعاده، وأسقطت تلك الغامضة التي اكتنفها اللبس وبدت ثانوية في المصادر الرشدية المعتمدة، إضافة مصطلحات فقهية تعود إلى ابن رشد الجد نظراً إلى تأثر ابن رشد الحفيد بها. كما أوردت مصطلحات معربة ومنقولة عن اللاتينية والعبرية تباعاً في كتابي "الشرح الكبير لكتاب النفس" و "الضروري في السياسة مختصر كتاب السياسة لأفلاطون، ثم استيفاء معظم التفرعات للمصطلح الواحد، ثم إبراز كل التفريعات المصطلحة المستجدة عند ابن رشد، وفي علومه كافة لبيان شموليته المعرفية، وقد جرى ترتيب المصطلحات بحسب اللفظ دون العودة إلى الجذر، مع مراعاة وضع الجذور ومشتقاتها في الفارس.
