تُعد قضية تحديد المصطلحات التربوية من أكثر القضايا التي تواجه طلاب الدراسات العليا والمشتغلين في ميدان التربية؛ ذلك الميدان الذي تتباين من حوله وجهات النظر؛ حيث يتناوله المتخصصون من زوايا متعددة، ومنطلقات متباينة، وجوانب كثيرة، الأمر الذي أدى إلى تعدد مصطلحاته، وتباين كل من مدلولاتها وتعريفاتها الإجرائية بين هؤلاء المتخصصين، وربما يرجع ذلك إلى إختلاف فلسفة المربي أو المنظر أولاً، وإختلاف مرجعيته الفكرية ثانياً، وعدم ثبات الظاهرة التربوية ثالثاً.
إن عدم الإتفاق على تعريفات محددة للمصطلحات والمفاهيم التربوية، قد يثري مجال البحث لدى أصحاب الإختصاص، ولكنه في الوقت ذاته قد يسبب بعض التصورات الخطأ، أو التشتت لدى فكر دراسي التربية المبتدئين؛ مما دفع المؤلف إلى إعداد مؤلَّفٍ يجمع بين دفتيه مجموعة من المصطلحات التربوية في مجالات عدة، قد تكون قاعدة أساسية للفكر المشترك بين المتخصصين في ميدان التربية.
هذا، وقد صنفت المصطلحات في هذا المؤلَّف إلى ثمانية مجالات، ورُتبت بحسب منطقية الدراسة في كل مجال، حيث تناول المجال الأول المناهج وطرق التدريس وتناول المجال الثاني تكنولوجيا التعليم، وتناول المجال الثالث تعليم التفكير، في حين تناول المجال الرابع الإدارة وجودة التعليم، وتناول المجال الخامس القياس والتقويم التربوي، وتناول مجال السادس البحث التربوي، وتناول المجال السابع الإحصاء التربوي، وأخيراً فقد تناول المجال الثامن الثقافة العلمية.
