ولدت ونشأت في الضواحي الغربية لـ "سيدني" بأستراليا.
تلقت تعليمها بجامعة سيدني وعملت صحفية في كبرى جرائد المدينة "سيدني مورنينج" وكانت مراسلة لصحيفة "الوول ستريت" في البوسنة والصومال والشرق الأوسط ثم تفرغت للكتابة وتعيش حالياً في ولاية فرجينيا بأمريكا.
من أعمالها الإبداعية..
عام العجائب، ومن كتبها "تسعة أجزاء للرغبة"، "مراسلة أجنبية".
حققت أعمالها الإبداعية أصداء طيبة وجعلتها نجماً في أفق الرواية العالمية قبل أن تفوز بجائزة البوليتزر عام 2006 عن رواية "مارتش"
