مارتش هو البطل/الأب الغائب الذي تُخرجه الكاتبة "جيرالدين بروكس" من صفحات رواية "نساء صغيرات" للكاتبة "لويزاماي الكوت". وترسله إلى أتون الحرب الأهلية الأمريكية كقس يدعم الجانب الروحي والديني للجنود ويعاني طوال الرواية جرّاء صراع الإنسان المرير بين الاحتفاظ بمبادئه وقيمه الأخلاقية ونزواته وأهوائه الشخصية. كانت الجملة الأكثر حضوراً في الاحتفاء النقدي برواية "مارتش" لـ "جيرالدين بروكس": لو قرأت "لويزاماي الكوت" صاحبة رواية "نساء صغيرات" هذه الرواية لسعدت بها كثيراً.
