هذا الجهد محاولة للوقوف عند بعض سيرة مؤلف الكتاب أنطون المقدسي وبعض أفكاره, تشارك مع بعض أصدقائه وتلامذته في كتابة فصولها عبر ثلاثة محاور, كان أولها محور عن رحيل الأستاذ, والثاني نصوص جرى اختيارها من كتاباته في السنوات الأخيرة, أما المحور الثالث, فقد جرى جمع مقالات وشهادات عن الأستاذ في فكره وحياته كتبها أصدقاء وتلاميذ الأستاذ, تضمنت حيثيات وتفاصيل في التجربة الغنية والفريدة التي عاشها, والتي لا تشبه تجربة مثقف آخر من المثقفين العرب. وكان من أهم ما تناوله الكتاب من مواضيع ما يلي: بيان لجان إحياء المجتمع المدني في سورية, بيان التجمع الوطني الديمقراطي في سورية, ضرورة المجتمع المدني, كلام لحفز مزيد من التطوير في سورية, الحياة في خدمة الآخرين, ضرورة الديمقراطية, وغيرها من المواضيع الهامة.
أنطون المقدسي: ولد المفطر الراحل أنطون المقدسي في يبرود 1917 القريبة من دمشق ودرس الابتدائية وقسماً من الثانوية في يبرود والقسم الآخر في دمشق 1933-1934. حصل على إجازة في الفلسفة وشهادة في الأدب الفرنسي من فرنسا جامعة مونبلييه, وعلى إجازة الحقوق, وأخرة في العلوم السياسية من مدرسة الحقوق الفرنسية في بيروت وكانت لا تزال تابعة لجامعة ليون. توفي أنطون المقدسي في دمشق في السابع من شباط بعد مسيرة حافلة من الجهد والعطاء ودفن فيها.
