أضحى سؤال النهضة هاجساً يشغل بال الكثير من المثقفين والمفكرين العرب. غير أننا نلاحظ نوعين من هذا الاهتمام المفرط بالنهضة، الأول يحاول أن يستعيد "عصر النهضة" كما تجلى في كتابات الرواد الأوائل مع نهاية القرن التاسع عشر، ويجهد في استحضار مناقبهم ومقولاتهم، أما الثاني فتحضر "النهضة" لديه كنوع من الطوبى، أو الأمل المنشود، إذ هو يسعى إلى بعث نهضة عربية جديدة عبر الإكثار من الكتابة عنها، أو عبر إغزار الحديث لاستجلابها. وكلا النوعين من الحديث عن النهضة يشكلان أيديولوجيا جديدة تحضر بقوة في الخطاب العربي المعاصر وتمسك بتلابيبه.
فهل تعبر أيديولوجيا النهضة اليوم عن مأزق فكري جديد يدخله العرب المحدثون، بعد عديد من المآزق التي وقعوا في إسارها كنماذج الثنائيات المفترضة؟
إن ما يطمح إليه هذا الكتاب في غايته الرئيسية هو نقد أيديولوجيا النهضة كما تجلت في الخطاب العربي المعاصر، وعبر نوعيها الاستلهامي والإيهامي، أي ذاك الذي يستلهم عصر النهضة، وذلك الذي يوهمنا بالنهضة، إنه نقد للأطروحات التي يحمل بعضها نوعاً من الجدية والعمق، لكن الكثير منها لا يعدو أن يكون محض إنشاء وبلاغة.
